Hempcrete
Hempcrete is a mixture of hemp hurds, lime and sand, which is used as a material for construction. It is a lightweight insulating material that is ideal for most climates as it combines insulation and thermal mass. It is eco-friendly, low cost and has wonderful potential in NEW architectural designs.
There are not many homes that have been built using hempcrete yet but it can be used throughout the world. It may be useful in other ways: plant beds, benches, similar to other earthen building techniques.
The cultivation of hemp is exceptional, with long roots that aerate soil, remove toxins, restoring the pH balance for the benefit of future crops. Hemp is an entirely good and useful plant that gardeners should grow for ecological reasons. It naturally grew wild in places throughout the world.
Hemp is proving to absorb more CO2 from the atmosphere than forests or commercial crops, an ideal carbon sink. The CO2 is permanently bonded within the fibers that is used for anything from textiles, to paper to building materials.
Hemp also has human and animal health benefits. Products range into foods, beverages and more. We plan to link to high quality hemp products to support growers and so many more people may learn to love the benefits of these extraordinary plants.
